In this weeks sports focus post, we ask the question – is volleyball hard? Read on to get the lowdown on how it compares to other sports in terms of overall difficulty.
Why Volleyball is a hard sport
One of the key things in volleyball is that you have to think very quickly. This is one of the main reasons why it’s a truly hard sport.
You have to learn to think quickly. You have to be able to figure out what to do in a very short space of time. Volleyball is a fast paced sport and the action barely stops. So you need to be ready to respond as quickly as possible to keep the ball in play.
Volleyball Requires Great Teamwork and Cooperation
Volleyball is very much a team game. In order to be successful, you have to work well with your fellow teammates. This is another important reason why volleyball can be very challenging. If you don’t work well as part of a team, you’re going to struggle.
No matter how good you might be in your chosen position, if your team doesn’t function well as a unit, chances are you won’t win. If a volleyball team are going to succeed, they need to regularly practice good teamwork.

You need a whole range of different skills
This is another thing that makes volleyball a truly difficult sport. It requires a whole range of different skills in order to be successful. These include physical strength, agility, stamina, and flexibility.
Unlike other sports, you have to be good at a whole range of different disciplines simultaneously. Whilst this makes volleyball challenging, it also adds to the overall appeal of the sport. It means that you always have something to work on and to try and improve.
It’s mentally challenging
The fast-paced nature of volleyball doesn’t just challenge you physically, It also means that you also have to be razor-sharp mentally.
The action is often non-stop, and you have to calculate your moves and take action often very quickly. This makes volleyball very challenging mentally. You’ll need to be super focused to play your best.
It requires long-term dedication and commitment
Volleyball is not a sport that can be mastered in a short space of time, It required commitment and dedication over a long period of time in order to get really good.
There are a number of rules and guidelines that need to be mastered before you can play at a high level. If you don’t adhere to these rules, you’re in danger of giving away points to your opponents. So you need to be willing to dedicate considerable time and effort towards learning this aspect of the game.
